On October 16, 2019, New York's Museum of Sex celebrated the launch of its largest and most immersive project to date: "SUPER FUNLAND: Journey into the Erotic Carnival".
Conceived by Swiss-born Serge Becker and curated by Lissa Rivera, SUPER FUNLAND is an interactive installation of thirteen humorously explicit games and amusements, created by an international team of prominent artists and designers, that re-imagines the carnival in all of its carnality and simple joy for a contemporary adult audience.
Now open to the public, guests can uncover the carnival’s bacchanalian origins and licentious evolution from antiquity to pre-industrial Europe and the World’s Fairs of the 20th century. Featuring 18 one-of-a-kind games and amusements created by an international team of contemporary artists and designers including Bompas & Parr (UK), Bart Hess (UK), Rebecca Purcell (US) and Snohetta (Netherlands).
Some favourites from the opening night included the "RuPaul Knows All" fortune-telling machine, "Glory Stall," a playful take on the iconic Whac-A-Mole, and "The Climbax: Climbing Challenge," a larger-than-life attraction.
